One Clemson builds White Horse Academy’s ‘Field of Dreams’

White Horse Academy is a 16-bed residential treatment program for adolescent males ages 13-17 who are struggling with problems related to substance abuse.  The facility is located in Greenville, and serves families in South Carolina.  The Academy’s clinical program offers a wide range of counseling and treatment activities focused in engaging the boys in their own recovery and bringing about positive changes in their lives.

One element missing from the White Horse Academy campus was a safe athletic field to aid in the recovery and therapy of the residents.  One of our One Clemson board members worked with several local businesses to secure donations and in-kind services to develop the field.  We needed to raise $55,000 to complete the field.

The One Clemson board voted to contribute $10,000 towards the construction of the athletic field.  One of the benefactors of the Academy, Steve Grant, has pledged to match One Clemson’s donation for an amount up to $25,000.  The ONE Clemson board members contributed $20,000 of their personal funds to raise the money to complete the field.

ONE Clemson Board Members and athletes from the Clemson Track and Field and Golf teams participated in  an opening ceremony by playing a number of games on the new field with White Horse Academy residents on March 1, 2019.
